WINDHAM — Fire officials have determined two house fires last Thursday were started by lightning, fire Chief Thomas McPherson said yesterday.
At about 12:40 p.m. last Thursday, a three-alarm house fire broke out at 32 Hawthorne Road as thunderstorms and heavy rain pummeled Southern New Hampshire.
Eleven fire departments helped battle that blaze and three firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion at the scene.
Hours after firefighters cleared that scene, they were called out just after 11 p.m. to a second house fire at 10 Forest St.
In that case, firefighters found heavy fire coming from an attached garage and the top floors and roof of the two-and-a-half-stroy home. A second alarm was struck to bring more water and firefighters to the scene, McPherson said.
