Esperanza Academy backers in Maine race

LAWRENCE - A 40-something mother of seven; an Enterprise Rent-a-Car manager. A UMass Medical School psychiatrist; an ordained Episcopal minister. These runners are part of a crew of 21 Esperanza Academy supporters who ran will half marathons and team-relay marathons at the Maine Marathon in Portland yesterday. Their goal was to raise $10,000 for uniforms and athletic equipment for Esperanza Academy’s new competitive and intramural athletics program.

“We are humbled—and deeply grateful—that people are willing to run long distances to help raise money for our athletic program,” said Christopher H. Wilson, Esperanza Head of School, who will ran the half-marathon. Esperanza’s new athletic program, which includes competitive and intramural soccer, softball, lacrosse, and kickball, was Wilson’s idea. To sponsor the runners —you can do so until Oct. 31— contact Esperanza’s Director of Development, Deborah Blicharz, at deborah.blicharz@esperanzaacademy.org or 978-686-4673 x22.
