Guilmette school receives funds for wellness program
LAWRENCE — Guilmette Elementary School has been awarded $1,635 from Smart Choice to support the school’s Fuel Up to Play 60 program and add more whole grains to breakfast. Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by National Dairy Council and National Football League that helps students to eat healthy and be active.
“Through our partnership with Fuel Up to Play 60, we are able to provide nutrient-rich foods that meet or exceed the very latest USDA standards. We are confident that by working with Fuel Up to Play 60 we will be able to develop better student nutrition lifestyles,”said Jack Anderson, president of J.S.B. Industries, parent company of Smart Choice.
Guilmette Elementary School was selected from among hundreds of schools across the country that applied for funding to help them jumpstart and sustain healthy nutrition and physical activity improvements. Tomorrow, students will get a chance to taste Smart Choice whole grain products, participate in nutrition trivia and a physical activity, and run relay races with New England Patriots Mascot Pat Patriot.
“It is extremely important to us as a school to give our students as many opportunities as we can to be physically active and ensure that they are eating a good breakfast,” said physical education teacher Casey Grange.
