Vandals shatter Pinkerton window

DERRY — A weekend shooting incident shattered a large window at Pinkerton Academy.

It's believed someone, likely using a BB gun, fired at the front entrance to Stockbridge Theatre, breaking a lobby window, according to school spokesman Robin Perrin.

"It seems to be some kind of small projectile," he said. "The whole window has to be replaced."

Perrin, who has worked at Pinkerton for about 30 years, said while windows at the school have been shot at over the years, this is the first time a large window received so much damage it had to be replaced. A cost estimate for the damage was not available.

The incident occurred either Saturday night or early Sunday, when no one was at the school. But Perrin said Pinkerton takes the safety of its students and staff very seriously.

"Vandalism is a safety issue and that's our top priority," he said. "The motive is a guess."

Derry police Capt. Vern Thomas said his department received a call about the incident at 3:17 a.m. Sunday, but no further details were available.
