St. Joseph School of All Saints Parish will hold its annual yard sale on June 1 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower schoolyard, 56 Oak Terrace.

Donations of items are being accepted, with the exception of major electronic items such as computers, monitors and appliances.

COA trips offered

The Council on Aging is offering several new travel opportunities.

A bus and rail excursion to Portland aboard the Downeaster is Saturday, July 13. Cost is $89 per person.

A summer sail on the schooner Thomas E. Lannon and a visit to Gloucester and Rockport is Wednesday, July 31. Cost is $95 per person.

A Boston Harbor Cruise to Provincetown is planned for Saturday, Aug. 3. Cost is $94 per person.

An overnight trip to Tanglewood for a BSO concert with fireworks and the Berkshires is Aug. 6 and 7. The trip includes deluxe motor coach transportation, one night hotel at the Comfort Inn in Pittsfield, full course luncheon, BSO concert, and admissions to Chesterwood, Naumkeag and the Norman Rockwell Museum.

Prostate cancer talk

PSA Testing Controversies, a medical Meet the Expert seminar with Urologic Surgeon Christopher P. Birdsall, MD will be held on Tuesday, June 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. in Merrimack Valley Hospital’s first floor auditorium, 140 Lincoln Ave.

Birdsall will discuss the Preventive Services Task Force PSA screening recommendations, the American Urologic Association PSA screening guidelines and appropriate PSA use in the screening and monitoring setting.

Free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is required. One contact hour in nursing awarded at the end of the presentation.

NECC offers continuing education courses for accountants

The recently named Sidney G. Kotzen Institute of Continuing Professional Education for Accountants at Northern Essex Community College will offer a number of spring/summer 2013 Continuing Professional Education courses for tax professionals. The courses include: An Honest Look at Ethics for CPAs and Other Financial Professionals (May 29); Using the 1040 as a Tax and Financial Planning Tool (May 30); Introductory and Advanced QuickBooks 2012 for CPAs and Other Tax Professionals (June 5); Mass Tax Update (June 6); Excel Tips and Tricks for Financial Professionals (June 13); Tips and Traps for Sales & Use Taxes in a Multistate Environment (June 14); Fraud Detection: Forensic Accounting (June 19); Tax and Legal Aspects of Buying and Selling a Small Business (June 20); Real Estate Transaction Overview (June 21) and Federal, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire Taxation of LLCs: The Basics and Recent Developments (June 27).

Started in July 1987, the institute offers courses designed to meet mandatory Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements for Certified Public Accounts in Massachusetts and New Hampshire; tax courses meet requirements for Enrolled Agents and will be of interest to all tax professionals.

Recycling fundraiserto benefit St. Joseph School

St. Joseph School of All Saints Parish is holding a recycling fundraiser this month. Items can be dropped off for recycling from May 28 to June 1 at Recycling I.T., 105 South Main St., Bradford.

Parking is available behind the building or on side streets. Hours are Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Approximately 80 percent of the fees collected will be donated to St. Joseph. Examples of fees include $2 for a standard green Haverhill recycling container filled with wires, cables, power cords or other loose electronics such as routers, transistor radios, telephones and power supplies; $2 for LCD monitors, LCD TVs, VCRs, DVD players and stereo equipment; $5 for printers, fax machines, computers, servers and similar devices; $5 for microwave ovens; $10 for air conditioners and CRT monitors, and $25 to $45 for large tube TVs.

No charge for laptop computers or cell phones. Information contained on computer hard drives will be destroyed at a secure facility.

A certificate of destruction can be provided and the cost will determined by the number of drives.
