ANDOVER — Assorted jewelry and computer equipment were reported stolen in two daytime burglaries Wednesday, police said.
Also, officers are investigating the theft of two copper downspouts valued at $600 from a commercial building at 100 School St., Lt. James Hashem said.
"We have seen an increase in housebreaks," Hashem said. "A couple involved breaks where people were home."
Hashem said Mackenzie Phaneuf, of 36 Beacon St., returned home to find computer equipment had been stolen from the house.
She reported the theft at 3:18 p.m.
At 7:45 p.m., Mary Esposito, of 86 Greenwood Road, returned home and found the door to her home open and called police, Hashem said. He said assorted jewelry was stolen during the break.
"These burglaries appear to be unrelated," Hashem said.
Mark Spencer called police at 10:36 a.m. Wednesday to report the theft of two copper downspouts from the building at 100 School St., Hashem said.
"They had just had them installed last week and they were taken within the last couple of days," Hashem said.
He said police were working on several leads in the burglaries, but he urged residents to use caution.
"Lock your doors even when you are at home," Hashem said. "Report suspicious people or vehicles that you see in the neighborhood."
