HAVERHILL — A man arrested for shooting arrows at a neighbor from a city high-rise told police a gun found in his apartment belonged to his service dog Roland and the empty crack pipe there was left behind by his cleaning lady.

Police arrested Ronald Misencik, 45, in his apartment at 1 Water St. yesterday after a neighbor reported having arrows shot at him from Misencik’s fourth-floor apartment Thursday night.

Misencik told police he was a “bower” who made his own bows and arrows and he wasn’t shooting them at his neighbor. According to the police report, Misencik said he didn’t like the arrows very much and threw them out the window with a warning to “watch out.”

The victim stated he heard a muffled voice yell an obscenity at him and then an arrow “shot down” next to him about 9:30 p.m Thursday night. The victim ran under the carport and watched as a second arrow came down, according to the police report.

When police searched Misencik’s apartment yesterday and found numerous bullets and a crack pipe, Misencik had an answer for that too.

“Misencik stated that he didn’t have the gun but that Roland does,” Officer James Keenan wrote. “When asked if he had a (license to carry), Misencik stated that he doesn’t, but Roland does.”

A gun was found in a service vest worn by Roland, a German shepherd service dog. Several bows and a quiver containing arrows were also found in the apartment.

Misencik later said he had the gun because “as a Mason it’s his duty to protect other Masons, and that he knows several of you guys (police) are Masons, too.”

As for the crack pipe, Misencik first told police his cleaning lady must have left it behind but later said “he may have smoked crack last night,” the police report states.

Misencik was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlicensed possession of ammunition.

As officers were securing the apartment and Misencik was being led out, Keenan noticed three eggs wrapped in cellophane with writing on them.

“Mr. Misencik advised me to be careful. That’s an eggs-periment,” Keenan wrote.

Misencik was ordered held without bail at Haverhill District Court yesterday. According to court records, Misencik has a history of mental illness, a record of convictions, and in the past has used aliases or has provided false identification.

Misencik lives in Apt. 408 at 1 Water St., one floor above where a man was slain earlier this month. Kevin Paul, 51, Apt. 306, was stabbed to death in his apartment May 6. His live-in girlfriend Susan Lovejoy, 64, has been charged with his murder and is in jail awaiting trial.
