LAWRENCE — A store manager told police she was robbed of more than $9,000 in cash yesterday morning as she was about to drive to the bank to make a deposit.

Piedad Intriago said she noticed a man and woman on the sidewalk near the front of Family Dollar at 700 Essex St. at 7:34 a.m. as she walked with a bank deposit bag toward her car, Officer Carlos L. Vieira wrote in his report.

An unknown man appeared after she had got into her car and began to close the driver’s door. The stranger stopped the door from being closed and demanded the bank deposit bag, according to police.

The stranger grabbed the bag from Intriago and fled toward Margin and Medford streets, she told police.

Intriago, who has worked at Family Dollar for three years, told police the suspect wasn’t armed with a weapon. She described the man as wearing a ‘black mask,’ but didn’t know whether it was a ski mask or bandanna.

The suspect was between 5-feet and 5-feet 5-inches tall, medium build and unknown age. He wore dark blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt with a hoddie. Intriago told police she doesn’t recall any other features that could assist identifying the suspect, according to officer Vieira.

Police said the store has a video surveillance that will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
