Ryan Friedman, 27, pulled off a big win in what host Alex Trebek called a "seesaw battle." Despite having a score of negative $400 at one point, Friedman used a daily double question to move into the lead, by just $1, for the final round. With $14,801, he surpassed his Monday total of almost $12,000 before the game was over.
Armed with only the final category, modern languages, Friedman bet $14,800 on this question: An estimated 100,000-plus people speak this language, whose nouns have no gender and end with the letter O.
Friedman answered correctly: Esperanto. But so did his two competitors. It was his bold bidding that kept him on top last night, raking in $29,601 for the evening and bringing his three-day total to $61,700.
The episodes were taped in September, all on the same day. Friedman, who is not allowed to talk about the outcome of shows that haven't aired, said each show's winner gets a 10-minute break to change clothes before taking the stage to play another round. Friedman will appear on the show again tonight.
