Freshman legislator is learning the ropes

Rep. Marilinda Garcia, R-Salem, isn't the youngest legislator in the state House of Representatives, but she's close.

At 24, the harp instructor at Phillips Exeter Academy has gotten an early start on her political career. She was elected in November in what proved to be one of the most surprising elections in recent years. In Garcia's district, voters elected a straight ticket of Republican legislators. Throughout the rest of the state, voters did almost the opposite, ushering in Democratic majorities in both houses.Read this article in full with a
