Haverhill — Arthur J. Roberts, 91, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House.
Born in Haverhill, he was the son of Theodore N. and Catherine R. (Murphy) Roberts. Educated in Haverhill Public Schools, he was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1940. A Veteran of WWII, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until being honorably discharged in 1945. He continued his education, receiving his degree in Civil Engineering from Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston and would also earn his degree in Electrical Engineering.
Mr. Roberts was employed as an Electrical Engineer for the Charles T. Main Engineering Company in Boston for his entire career, retiring in 1984.
For thirty years, he and his wife, Priscilla, enjoyed a wonderful retirement, including several trips abroad. He was an animal lover and avid gardener.
He leaves his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Priscilla (Walker) Roberts of Haverhill; a brother, John C. Roberts and his wife, Arline; two sisters, Eleanor K. (Mrs. Augustus) Canney, and Margaret V. (Mrs. Albert) Eason, all of Haverhill. He was predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy Saulnier, T. Joseph Roberts, Edmund J. Roberts, and William S. Roberts. Arthur also leaves many loving nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Friday, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., (Route 125), Haverhill. Funeral services will begin on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial is private.
