Haverhill — James F. Champey, 73, of Haverhill, died on Saturday, December 14, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late, Joseph and Lillian (Lefebvre) Champey.
Born and raised in Lawrence, he attended Lawrence Public Schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1958. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Champey enlisted and proudly served from 1958, until being honorably discharged in 1961.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, James loved spending time with his family. He and his wife, Joanne, enjoyed many years of camping at Newfound Lake in Bristol, N.H., where he enjoyed fishing and boating and just taking in the beautiful surroundings. He also did a lot of cruising in the car, just to take a ride. For many years he played Santa Claus, as his wife, Joanne, would play Mrs. Claus for photographs. The money raised was donated to local charities.
He leaves his beloved wife of 49 years, Joanne (DelBene) Champey, of Haverhill; four loving daughters, Deborah A. Champey, of Haverhill, Lisa M. Ivanovitch and her husband, Aaron, of Derry, N.H., Christina Andrade and her husband, Paul, also of Derry, and Ann Marie Silva of Plaistow; a sister, Virginia Champey of Haverhill; and 10 cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Joanna, and Jessica Pham, Samantha Turner, Shawn Ivanovitch and his wife, Courtney, James Ivanovitch, Paul Andrade Jr., Jared Andrade, Krystal Diaz, and Shyanne Silva. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Champey Jr.; and sister, Nancy Hill.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service for James on Tuesday, today, at 7 p.m., in the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill.
