South Yarmouth, MA — William Francis Collins Sr., “Bill,” 86, of South Yarmouth, Mass., passed away the evening of November 14. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. and Lillian “Gertrude” (Friel) Collins; and his brother, Robert M. Collins.
Bill is survived by his dedicated wife of 64 years, Kathleen A. (LeFebvre) Collins of South Yarmouth; brother, Joseph A. Collins Jr. of Reading, Mass.; son, William F. Collins Jr. (Mary M. “Mimi” Gunkel) of Elkhorn, Nev.; daughters, Ellen C. Collins-Boyce (C.O.L. “Don” Boyce) of Raleigh, N.C.,and Mary K. Collins (J. Christine “Chris” Wilson) of Pittsford, N.Y.;, sons, Joseph P. Collins (Suzanne M. Fusini) of Brimfield, Mass., and Sean F. Collins (Tracy A. O’Neil) of Winchester, Mass., and daughter, Deirdre A. Collins-Caraher (Philip A. Caraher) of Chapel Hill, N.C. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was born on June 10, 1927, in Lawrence, Mass. He honorably served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, and Boston College, where he was a lifelong member of the BC Club and a Golden Eagle. He worked as a licensed professional engineer for nearly 20 years for General Electric, traveling the world, 15 years as an educator in the Berkshire County School System, and finally retiring as an engineer for Northrop in Newport, R.I. He loved the Red Sox and Patriots. He loved being out in nature, downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, sailing, and deep sea fishing. In recent years, he enjoyed kayaking the Bass River and various waterways on the Cape. He was an avid reader with a focus on Irish history and World War II. He had a strong faith, and most enjoyed spending time with his family.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for his excellent health care at the Windsor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in South Yarmouth.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 22, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, at 10 a.m., followed by a 12:45 p.m. burial service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, MacArthur Blvd., in Bourne.
