Nokomis, Fla. — William Halward Lappen, 82, of Nokomis, Fla., formerly of Massachusetts and New Hampshire passed away November 1. Mr. Lappen was a longtime employee of New England Telephone, which became Ninex and, ultimately, Verizon. He was an avid golfer and member of the Myakka Pines Golf Club in Englewood, and an active outdoorsman who loved to boat, hunt, and fish. He was also a member of the Englewood Elks Lodge, and the Lions Club, both in Florida and New Hampshire. William also liked to build model boats and outdoor furniture, and never met a stranger he didn’t like. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Lappen is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 62 years; children, Nancy McCoy and her husband Thomas of Meredith, N.H., Wendy of Sarasota, Stacy and her husband Jeffrey Gabrielson of Nokomis, and William and his wife Kathleen of Yarmouthport; grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, Matthew, Brett, Chasen, Kaileigh, and Shane; great-grandchildren Kelly, Liam, Erin, and Will; sister, Sarah Leary and her husband Timothy of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: His family will be receiving friends from 4 until 6 p.m., Monday, November 5 at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel. His life will be celebrated 1 p.m., Tuesday, November 6 at Englewood Community Presbyterian Church.
