Anna P. (Pananos) Gickas


Haverhill — Anna P. (Pananos) Gickas, 79, of Haverhill, passed away Wednesday April 17, 2013, at Merrimack Valley Hospital. She was born in Haverhill on Sept. 23, 1933, daughter of the late Nicholas and Lucy (Manganais) Pananos. Anna was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1951, and then attended the M. Fazio Institute of Beauty Culture in Lawrence. She opened a hair salon in downtown Haverhill when she was in her early twenties. After having children, she moved the salon into her own home which is where it remained until her retirement. Ann's Beauty Salon had a faithful clientele for 50 years, with customers who became dear friends. Anna was an active member of Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill and the Philoptochos Society ELPIS. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend who loved her home and garden. She cared deeply for others and made new friends wherever she went. She was a lifelong resident of Haverhill, but her friendships reached far beyond. Her family members are grateful to the dedicated ICU staff of Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill for their attentive care and compassion.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years George J. Gickas, her daughter, Karen and her husband, Osamu Sekiguchi, of Marblehead, Mass., her son John G. Gickas of Takasaki, Japan, her granddaughter Reina Lucy Sekiguchi, her sisters, Frances Moutafis and Mary Ann Valhouli, both of Haverhill, as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Funeral Service on Monday morning April 22, at 11 a.m., at the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 154 Winter St., Haverhill. Interment will follow in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Calling hours will precede the service on Monday from 9:30-11 a.m., at the Church. Arrangements are by the H.L.
