HAVERHILL — Mr. Arthur R. LaBonte, 82, of Haverhill, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Kindred Hospital in Peabody.
Born in Haverhill, son of the late Marcel and Emma (Fountaine) LaBonte, he attended local schools and graduated from the former Haverhill Trade School.
Mr. LaBonte served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant during World War II and was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and The Asiatic Pacific and China Service Medals.
Mr. LaBonte was employed for many years at Brentwood Lounge Furniture Company in Haverhill as a truck driver and forklift operator and later as a lathe operator until his retirement.
He was known to local nursing home residents and shut-ins for the charity work that he performed at Christmas time, dressed as Santa Claus.
A member of Church of the Nativity in Merrimac, he enjoyed summertime trips to Prince Edward Island, working out in his yard and his Basset Hound, Sarah Lee.
Predeceased by brothers, Felix, Robert, Oliver, Urban and Albert LaBonte and sisters, Eva Rose, Florence and Leona LaBonte and Gloria Keith, he is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Roselaine (Arsenault) LaBonte; a sister-in-law, Margaret Davichik of Hampton, N.H.; a nephew, Robert LaBonte and his wife Nancy, and their son, Christopher of Hampton, N.H.; a great-nephew, Robert LaBonte and his wife Gail and their son, Robert; nieces, Terry LaBonte and Michelle Bernal, and many friends.
Mrs. LaBonte would like to acknowledge all of the help and support extended to her and her husband by Colette and Edward Castine, Daniel and Laura Castine, Edward and Nancy Arsenault, Paul and Joyce Thibodeau, Diane Walker, and Debbie Fredette.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass to be held on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Church of the Nativity, Church St., Merrimac. Arrangements are under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, N.H.
