Lawrence — Courtney R. “Sarge” Allston, 85, of Lawrence died on Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Academy Manor, Andover. Mr. Allston was born, raised and educated in Lawrence. He served with the U.S. Army during The Korean War, and retired from the Army Reserves. He worked as a case worker for the Social Services Department of Massachusetts, and more recently, he was employed by Day Break Shelter of Lawrence. He was beloved by many of his co-workers at Day Break Shelter, and they would always check up on him and be concerned for his well being.
Mr. Allston was the son of the late, Helen R. Allston, and the brother of the late, Christine D. Preston. His family members include his nieces and nephew, Diane C. Mills and her husband, Wesley, of Lawrence, Judy Courtney Fernandes of Lawrence, Doreen Jones and her husband, Harvey, of El Cajon, Calif., and Raymond N. Preston Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Avon, Ind. He also leaves many great-nieces and great-nephews, including his great-nephew, Christopher M. Mills; and cousins and many friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be on Thursday, December 19, from 4 to 7 p.m., at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 20, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence.
