Methuen, MA — Alfio Branchina, 79, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill. Alfio was born in Bianca Villa, Italy, and was the son of the late Nicola and Vincenzina Branchina. Alfio was raised and educated in Italy, and he served in the Italian military. Emigrating to America in 1968, he settled in Methuen, where he built his home and raised his family.
He was a hard-working mason, and operated Branchina Construction Co. until his retirement in 2009. His son, Nicolas, still runs it today, following in his footsteps.
Alfio will be known as a great family man, who loved gardening and cars in his spare time.
Alfio was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother, and will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Giuseppina (Priolsi) Branchina of Methuen; his loving children, Zina Pantalone and her husband, Stephen, and Nicolas Branchina and his wife, Natasha, all of Methuen; his adoring grandchildren, Antonella Benoit of Salem, N.H., Maria Silva of Haverhill, and Miranda, Nicolas and Bianca Branchina, all of Methuen; and his great-grandchildren, Anthony and Gianna Benoit of Salem, and Natalia Silva of Haverhill. He also leaves his siblings, Carmelina Branchina, Sarina Branchina and Salvatore Branchina, all of Italy, and Giuseppe Branchina of Methuen; and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends will respectfully be received at visiting hours on Friday, January 3, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. His funeral Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, January 4, at 9 a.m., at St. Lucy’s Church, 254 Merrimack St., Methuen. Entombment will follow in St. Mary Mausoleum, Lawrence.
