HAVERHILL — Jacqueline “Jackie” (Cushing) Martis, 83, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 3, 2014, in the Tufts New England Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Henry J. “Hank” Martis.
Born in Baltimore, Md., on September 21, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Sherman J. and Edna (Kendrick) Cushing. Jackie lived in Jamaica Plain as a young girl and was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School, Class of 1947. She also had resided in Brighton for 36 years, and upon retirement, relocated to Holiday, Fla. She recently lived in Haverhill with her daughter and son-in-law for the last four and a half years.
Jackie was an avid Red Sox fan, loved to bowl, enjoyed word search puzzles, and playing cards with her friends at Sarah’s Place in Haverhill. Jackie will be missed by all who knew her especially her daughter’s dogs, Molly and Bella.
She is survived by her three loving children, Carol Robb of Bangor, Maine, Peggy and her husband, Terry Connolly, of Haverhill, and Joseph and his wife, Peggy Martis of Franklin; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Thomas Robb.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service for Jackie will be held on Saturday, January 11, at 12 p.m., in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill. Calling hours will be held prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
