North Andover — Mary E. Midgley, 94, of North Andover, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014, at Lawrence General Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born to the late Donald M. and Mable (Evans) Thomson September 10, 1919, in North Andover, MA. Mary graduated from Johnson High School in 1937 and attended Boston University.
She was a retired employee of the Internal Revenue Service and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, devoting herself to their charitable and patriotic works.
Mary was an avid sports fan who delighted in following the local and Boston athletic teams. She was especially devoted to the Boston Red Sox and shared their struggles and most recent triumphs with equal enthusiasm.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Frank W. Smith and Alfred Midgley as well as her son, Frank W. Smith II.
Mary is survived by her four children; step-daughters, Marjory Hasty of Apache Junction, AZ, Maryann Roberts of Townsend, MA; daughter, Deborah Paterson of North Andover, MA; son, Donald N. Smith and his wife, Laura, of North Andover, MA. She is survived by her brother Donald M. Thompson Jr. of Fayetteville, NC and by her daughter-in-law, Judy Smith of Newburyport; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11, at 1 p.m. at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery, North Andover.
