LAWRENCE — Maria I. Caraballo DeJesus, 88, a long-time resident of Lawrence passed away Tuesday at her Tower Hill home surrounded by her loving family.
She was a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and was the daughter of Toribio and Aurora (Chevalier) DeJesus.
Early in her career, she was a physical education instructor in Dominican schools, she also studied commerce, liberal arts and music. Later, her main occupation was caring for and educating her children.
Mrs. Caraballo was an avid reader, enjoyed classic music and making crafts. Above all, she will be remembered for leading a life of example and good deed. Her family will forever cherish her memory as a virtuous woman of principle.
She was the proud mother of three sons, Nelson Caraballo, Ramon Caraballo, Carlos R. Caraballo; six daughters, Aurora M. Caraballo and her husband Emilio Gonell, Sarah I. Caraballo, Rosa M. Veras and her husband Silvano, the late Milagros Caraballo, Maria I. Caraballo, Esther Caraballo-Grady and her husband Brian; grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral from The Diaz-Healy Funeral Home, 107 So. Broadway, Opposite St. Patrick Church, South Lawrence. Calling hours, TODAY, Thursday, Oct. 11, from 4 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 1 PM in St. Mary of the Assumption Parish. Final acts of farewell and laying to rest will follow in Bellevue Cemetery.
