Haverhill — Dorothy M. McClennan, 87, formerly of Haverhill and Seabrook, N.H., passed away Thursday October 18, 2012 at Watson Field Assisted Living Facility in Dover, N.H.
She was born in Haverhill on May 19, 1925, daughter of the late John W. and Dorothy A. (Packard) McClennan.
Dorothy attended St. Gregory’s Grammar School and St. James School and was a graduate of Haverhill High School with the class of 1942. She continued her education at Boston University where she obtained a BA in 1946 and a masters degree in Education. She taught in Fisher Island, N.Y, Biddeford, Maine, Beverly High School and Hannah Duston School in Haverhill. Dorothy was proud of her roots in Haverhill, having grown up in the acre. She founded the HHS Class of 1942 Scholarship. She was the benefactor of the “Elk” Statue at Winnekenni Castle which was dedicated on June 5, 2005, to the Greatest Generation in memory of her parents, John and Dorothy McClennan. She was a benefactor of St. James Church. Dorothy lived in Lowell for 22 years and LaJolla, Calif. for several years. She was a former member of Vesper Country Club in Lowell and Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in Rancho – Santa Fe, Calif. She was involved in residential and commercial real estate in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She was a part owner of the Adams Real Estate Agency, Seabrook, N.H.
She is survived by her cousins, Virginia Robinson of Cranston, R.I., Wayne Robinson and his wife Constance of Cranston, R.I. and Clovis Robinson and his wife Donna of Ft. Worth, Texas.
ARRANGEMENTS: At her request, private Funeral Services and visitation were held on Monday, October 22 at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St. Haverhill.
