Lawrence, MA — Antonio X. Melo, 78, passed away on Saturday in the arms of his beloved wife of 57 years. Mr. Melo was born and educated in Flores, Azores, Portugal, the son of Joaquin Dutra and Margarida (Rosanina) Melo.
He moved his wife and children to Lawrence in 1972. Mr. Melo retired from the Frank C. Meyer Co. in Lawrence and was a former parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed taking walks, maintaining a garden and watching the Bruins. He mostly enjoyed family gatherings and attending Portuguese festivals. He leaves behind his loviong wife, Maria Idalina Melo of Lawrence; sons, Jose Melo and his wife, Lourdes (Sousa) Melo, of Methuen, Antonio Melo and his wife, Lucy (Lima) Melo, of Lawrence; daughters, Maria Isabel Sousa, wife of Mario Sousa of Lawrence, and Maria Idalina Scotti and her husband, Arthur Scotti, of Magnolia, Del.; daughter-in-law, Paula Melo of North Reading; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Fernando X. Melo.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be offered Thursday, June 13, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, June 12, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Farrah Funeral Home, 133 Lawrence St., Lawrence, MA 01841.
