Aram DerApkarian, 90


Methuen — Aram DerApkarian passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 21, 2013 after a short illness. Born in Lawrence to Garabed and Armenouhi (Tiftikjian) DerApkarian on February 5, 1923, Aram was educated in Boston and graduated from the Boston English High School in 1940.

After graduation, Aram was employed as a welder on the USS Massachusetts before being drafted into the Army 1942. A World War II veteran, Aram served his country proudly from 1942 to 1945. Upon his return, he owned and operated the family market with his brother in law, Kosrov (Casey), and later worked as a manager at Sampson’s Market, a butcher at Everybody’s Family Market in Lawrence, as well as a Real Estate Agent before retiring in 1980 from the Internal Revenue Office in Andover.

Aram was a longtime and faithful member of Saint Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church of North Andover, serving in many capacities, and was an active member of their Men’s Club. Aram was also a member of the John Hancock Lodge in Methuen, and served as the chairman of the visitation committee for the organization for many years. Among his hobbies were sharing time with his family and dear friends, meeting and being with people, cooking, gardening, reading, and writing the helpful hints columns for both his church and lodge bulletins. Aram was a loving man of great faith, compassion, and dedication. He will be missed by all who knew him, as he was known to be a one of a kind person.

Aram is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Alice (Donabedian) DerApkarian; sister, Elizabeth Atamian and her husband, Kosrov Atamian; and son-in-law, John Onnig Minassian. Aram leaves behind daughters, Karen Minassian of Haverhill and Sandra Sharke’ DerApkarian (with whom he made his home in Methuen); brothe,r Archie Apkarian and his wife, Carol of Arizona; grandchildren, Kristen Mikitarian and her husband, Reno Mikitarian of Millbury, John Aram Minassian of Haverhill, and Melanie Tokatlian and her husband, Haroot Tokatlian as well as two greatgrandchildren, of Windham, N.H.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday, March 26, from 9-11 a.m., at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church, 158 Main St., North Andover. A funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at St. Gregory, followed by burial at the Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Aram’s name to the St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Chuch Building Fund, 158 Main St., North Andover, MA, 01845.
