Haverhill — Edward R. Noyes, Sr., 87, of Haverhill died Friday morning, March 22, at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital, Haverhill.
He was born in Groveland, August 25, 1925 son of the late Herbert S. and Florence (Whightman) Noyes and was educated in the Haverhill school system.
Mr. Noyes served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He earned a Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and a European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He resided in California for a short time and was employed at Rocketdyne where he worked on space capsules. Mr. Noyes moved back to Haverhill in early 1960’s and was employed as a foreman for the Haverhill Water Department. He was a member of the VFW Lorraine Post 29, AMVETS Post 147, and the DAV.
His survivors include his wife of 67 years, Gertrude L. (Peters) Noyes of Haverhill; two daughters, Brenda L. Noyes of Haverhill, Judith A. Malbon of Plaistow, N.H.; two sons, Edward R. Noyes, Jr. and his wife, Jane of Gainesville, Fla., Leon L. Noyes and his wife, Jeannette of Fruitland Park, Fla.; a sister, Barbara Speed of Sarasota, Fla., 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service on Saturday morning, March 30, at 11 a.m. in Riverside Memorial Church, 278 Groveland St., Haverhill. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to the Riverside Memorial Church, 278 Groveland St., Haverhill, MA 01830, or the DAV, 180 Pond St., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
