North Andover and Salisbury — Rose M. DiPaolo, of North Andover and Salisbury Beach, went home to the Lord peacefully, with her beloved daughters, Jean, Ellie and Nancy, by her side at her Salisbury Beach home on Saturday morning, August 17, 2013. She was born in Methuen on November 26, 1913, and was the beloved daughter of the late Antonia (DiSalvo) and Salvatore LaSpina.
Rose graduated from John R. Rollins Grammar School and Lawrence High School. She was an office clerk for the Pacific Print Works in Lawrence for many years.
Rose was a member of the Ladies of Merrimack College, presently Friends of Merrimack since its inception, and she held several offices for the Ladies of Merrimack.
She was a member of the Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary and she co-chaired the children’s summer theater at the hospital. Rose was a past president of the Greater Lawrence Italian Women’s Club and a member of the tenth district President’s Club Nominating Committee of the Massachusetts State Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was a member of the Merrimack Valley African Violet Club and one of the originators of the Salisbury Beach Betterment Association.
Her generosity was legendary. She delighted in giving all of her visitor’s homemade delicacies. She loved vegetable gardens, painting, cooking, and most especially, baking homemade muffins and delicious pies. She crocheted afghans and hand-tatted wedding handkerchiefs for many friends.
Nanny Rose was happiest when surrounded by her family. She was a loving, caring mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend. She greeted everyone with her beautiful smile even during her final months.
Rose is survived by her three daughters, Jean, wife of David Conte of Salisbury, Ellie DiPaolo of Salisbury and North Andover, with whom she resided, and Nancy McLaughlin of Everett; four grandchildren, Andrea, and her husband, Robert Savard of Bradford, David "D.J." Conte and his wife, Catherine, of Salisbury, Erin McLaughlin, and her fiancé, Tyler Brenneman of Quincy, and Daniel McLaughlin of Boston; three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Gianna and Nathan; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Rose was a best friend and sister to Eleanor and her husband, Dante Ippolito of Hingham. She is predeceased by sisters, Mary Bertolami and Lena Calderone.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours on Monday, August 19, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen. Her Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday August 20, at 10 a.m., at St. Michael’s Church 196 Main Street, North Andover. Interment will follow at Bellevue Cemetery Lawrence.
