Hampstead, NH — Joan Roy, 76, of Hampstead, N.H., died on August 16, 2013, at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Haverhill, Mass., due to complications from a recent stroke. Her loving family surrounded her. Joan was born in Saugus, Mass., on February 24, 1937, and was a daughter of the late Irving and Ellen Denham. She worked as a reading specialist in the Lynn, Mass., Public School System for 28 years. She enjoyed golfing, gardening and boating, and was an avid reader. Joan loved spending time with her friends each winter in North Fort Myers, Fla.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Leslie. True soul mates, they were married for 40 years and shared a special love. She leaves her daughters, Cheryl Hanninen and her husband, Michael, of Salem, N.H., and Lori Stolos and her husband, Nickolas, of Derry, N.H. She had six granddaughters whom she adored, Joanie, Jacquelyn, Cynthia, Chelsea, Mackenzie, and Camryn.
Joan leaves three stepchildren, Deborah Fauth and her husband, Richard, of Salem, Thomas Roy and his wife, Linda, of Danvers, Mass., and Gary Roy and his wife, Lori, of Concord, N.H.; nine step-grandchildren, Michael, Jamison, Jonathan, Kara, Briana, Benjamin, Alexandria, and Madison, and is predeceased by Patrick; her sisters, Pat Stires of Clifornia, Judy Murray of Maine; and her brother, Dick Denham of Massachusetts.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 21, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 10 a.m., at First Parish Church, 47 East Derry Road, Derry.
