Haverhill, MA — Richard A. Seymour, age 91, of Haverhill, passed away on Friday August 23, 2013, at the Oxford Manor Nursing Home in Haverhill.
Richard was born on June 16, 1922, in Haverhill, and was the son of the late Joseph N. and Lillian (Terroux) Seymour. He was raised and educated in Haverhill and graduated from the Haverhill Trade School in 1941, where he was enrolled in the electrical trade.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942, and served aboard the USS Wadsworth (a 1600 Class Destroyer), until his discharge in 1946. The USS Wadsworth was part of Admiral (Bill) Halsey’s fleet in the Pacific Theatre.
Following his discharge from the Navy, Richard pursued work in the electrical trade. He started as a helper electrician and worked his way up to general superintendent for the largest electrical contractor in the area, Manzi Electric. He was superintendent of many commercial and industrial buildings, as well as many schools and hospitals, including the Lahey Clinic.
Richard’s hobbies included hunting, fishing and golf.
Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucille S. (Gallant) Seymour, of Bradford and his sister, Rita Bogrett, also of Bradford. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
His brothers, Leon and Norman Seymour, and his sisters, Emily Page and Joan Seymour, predeceased him.
ARRANGEMENTS: There are no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services for Richard on Thursday August 29, at 11 a.m., at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. Burial will follow the service at the funeral home at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Haverhill, where the U.S. Navy will render military honors.
