Haverhill — Joseph Drayton, 77, of Haverhill Mass., passed away early Saturday morning, August 24, 2013, from the Colonial Heights Nursing Home in S. Lawrence, Mass.
Joseph was born on November 16, 1935, in Allendale, S.C., to the late Jessie and Gracie (Hall) Drayton. Joseph was educated in the Allendale, South Carolina School District. He moved to Massachusetts in the late 1950s. He later became the owner/operator of JD Carpentry in Haverhill, Mass.
Joseph was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Haverhill, Mass., where he served for a time on the Diaconate Board as a Church Deacon.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Mary (Ewell) Drayton; sisters, Edith (Drayton) Wilson and his twin, Mary (Drayton) Lomick; sons, James Drayton, Joseph Drayton Jr. and his wife, Melissa, William Drayton, Benjamin Drayton, and Andrew Drayton; daughters, Gwendolyn Drayton, Theresa Drayton, Cecilia Drayton, and Aundra Drayton; grandchildren, Chanel (Drayton) Diaz, Isaiah Drayton, Alana Colon; great-grandchildren, Jamiene Diaz, Natalia Diaz, and Adriana Diaz; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Joseph was preceded in death by his sisters, the late Alice (Drayton) Broadnax and the late Ellen (Drayton) Christian.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral Service on Friday afternoon, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m. in Calvary Baptist Church, 13 Ashland St., Haverhill. Calling hours will precede the funeral service on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill, Mass. Arrangements are by the H.L.
