North Andover — Eugene “Gene” E. Cyr, 90, of North Andover, Mass., died on Saturday at Wingate at Reading, following a long illness. Gene was born on April 21, 1923, in Lawrence, Mass. He was educated in the Lawrence School System, and served in the U.S. Army in the 1308th Engineers Division, during World War II.
He worked for the Avco Corporation and the City of Lawrence Parks Department, from which he retired and went on to become a security guard for the Nevens Home, until he was 87 years old.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, father-in-law, son-in-law, grandfather, brother-in-law and uncle, who always brought a smile to those he met along the way.
Gene was predeceased by his loving wife, Josephine (Sambataro), and his two sisters, Eleanor and Anstiss, his mother and father- in-law, Rose (of whom he took such loving care) and John Sambataro, and his sister and brother-in-law, Victor and Toni Giglio.
Gene showed dedication to his family by his deeds and willingness to do whatever was needed to make someone happy. He adored his grandchildren and couldn’t do enough for them. Gene enjoyed ballroom and square dancing well into his 80s, and just being part of family gatherings. His presence will be sorely missed.
Gene is survived by his loving daughter, Cheryl Hebert and her husband, Ron, of North Andover; his grandson, Jonathan Hebert and his wife, Ashley, of Andover, and granddaughter, Lindsey Hebert and her fiancé, Jeremy Beauregard of Bradford; and nephews and their wives, Richard and Sally, John and Lorraine, Raymond and Jane, and Victor and Linda Giglio.
Those who knew him only a little while, or their whole lives, were likely to say “what a wonderful man, we just ... love him.”
