Joseph R. 'Joe' Freije, 64

Methuen, MA — Joseph Richard "Joe" Freije, died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House with his family at his bedside. Joe was born in Lawrence, Mass., and was the son of the late Abraham and Rose (Maloof) Freije. He was educated in Methuen schools and was a 1966 graduate of Tenney High School. Joe attended Wentworth Institute and received an associate degree in engineering from Merrimack College. He also studied air conditioning and refrigeration. Joe retired after 33 years of service from Lucent, formerly Western Electric and AT&T. He enjoyed working on cars, collecting antique radios and cameras, and traveling with his wife to Booth Bay Harbour, Maine. He was a parishioner of St. George Orthodox Church in Lawrence. He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Darlene M. (Gould) Freije of Methuen; sisters, Dianne and her husband, Peter Shaheen of North Andover, Mass., and Carolee and her husband, Don Fieldsend of Exeter, N.H.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m., at St. George Orthodox Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in the United Lebanese Charitable Society Cemetery in Lawrence. Friends may call Tuesday, July 2, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Farrah Funeral Home, 133 Lawrence St., Lawrence, Mass.
