Josephine M. Catania, 86


Lawrence — Mrs. Josephine M (Giuffrida) Catania, 86, devoted wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on January 1, 2013.

Josephine born in Lawrence, was the daughter of the late Carmelo and Filippa (Dovi) Giuffrida, and the beloved wife of the late, Frank Catania. Josephine educated in Lawrence, put herself through "hairdressing" school and worked for several local salons while also working as a stitcher for Bronzetti and Grieco Brothers, Lawrence.

Josephine will be remembered as loving, generous and kind to all that knew her. Her home was always opened to family and friends. No one was ever alone for a holiday or Sunday dinner; all were welcomed at the Catania home. She loved to cook and bake, especially for her family. She retired from Grieco Brothers and became the social director for the Amalgamated Retiree Club. As social drector, she was able to pursue her and her husband's love for travel. They traveled all over the U.S. and Europe, building many memories and friendships. Josephine attended Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church and was a member of the St. Rita's Sodality.

Josephine is sadly missed by her son, Paul and his wife, Lisa (Garneau) Catania of Methuen; her daughter, Constance Catania of East Hampstead, N.H.; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Nicole and Michael all of Methuen. She was the sister of the late Anthony “TJ” Giuffrida of Lawrence.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends will be warmly received during visiting hours on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 5, at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 35 Essex St. Lawrence.
