George W. Pappas, 76

Andover — Mr. George W. Pappas, 76, a resident of Lawrence for most of his life and most recently of Andover, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at his home.

He was born on May 13, 1936 in Lawrence, to the late Aristedes and Katherine (Poulios) Pappas. George was educated in the Lawrence schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School in 1953. He later graduated from the University of Mass-Amherst College. He was a parishioner of Saints Constantine and Helen Church in Andover, MA. George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed reading, history, sports, and especially spending time with his family. He was a big supporter of his family at their sporting events.

His family members include his sisters, Angela and her husband, Gunther Schug of Beverly,and Bessie Kenney of Methuen; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. George was predeceased by his brothers, John, Thomas, Harry and William Pappas.

His funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., following the calling hours, in Saints Constantine and Helen Church in Andover. Burial will follow in the Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence.
