Edward J. Sauriol, 82


Haverhill — Edward J. Sauriol, 82, of Haverhill, MA, died Monday, January 7, 2013, at Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill.

Born in Blue Island, Ill., he attended Notre Dame School, Chicago, Ill. and graduated from the former Eymard Seminary, Suffern, N.Y. He later went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Merrimack College and a Master's in Education from Boston State College. From 1958 until 1992, Mr. Sauriol was a Latin teacher at Haverhill High School and also worked as instructor in the evening division at Merrimack College.

Mr. Sauriol served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist Three during the Korean Conflict and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.

A longtime active member of All Saints Parish, Mr. Sauriol was a daily communicant and a former member of the Adoration Society, parish council, and parish choir.

He also served as a former Scout Master of the St. Rita’s Parish Boy Scout Troop. He was a member and past President of the Haverhill Education Association and the longtime Faculty Advisor to the Haverhill High School National Honor Society.

He enjoyed reading, woodworking, traveling, fishing, and golfing as a member of local leagues.

He is survived by his wife of fifty six years, Jeannette (Allard) Sauriol; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen J. and Pat Sauriol of Syracuse, N.Y. and David E. and Jo Sauriol of Monson; a brother, Thomas Sauriol of Tinley Park, Ill.; two sisters, Kathleen Gajewski of Crown Point, Ind. and Judith Van Dyke of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; ten grandchildren, Stephanie Miller, Maggie Ellis, Samantha Anable, Christopher Sauriol, Paul Sauriol, Peter Sauriol, Laura Sauriol, Theresa Sauriol, Katherine Sauriol, and Elizabeth Sauriol; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Sauriol is predeceased by four brothers, William, Gerard, Rene, and Paul and two sisters, Barbara and Janet

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call on Friday, January 11, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Berube—Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Route 97, Haverhill. His funeral will begin on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 10 a.m. at All Saints Church, Haverhill. Burial will take place directly after in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.
