Salem, N.H. — Jose L. “Nix” Sousa, 81, of Salem, N.H., passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. Jose was born, raised and educated in St. Michael Acores, Portugal.
He has been a resident of Salem, NH for the past ten years. Jose worked with New England Casket Company for many years prior to his retirement in 1996. In his free time he was an avid soccer fan and enjoyed playing cards.
Jose is predeceased by his wife, Abigail Santos who passed away in 2011; a son, Fernando Sousa; a grandson Nelson Sousa; and three brothers, Manuel, Edgardo and Arnaldo Paquete. He leaves his children, John and his wife, Fernanda Sousa of Somerville, Fernando and his wife, Fatima Sousa of Billerica, Joe and his wife, Ana Sousa of Medford, Paul and his wife, Maria Sousa of Salem, N.H. and Tony and his wife, Paula of Salem, N.H., daughters, Anabela and her husband, Eduardo Estrela of Salem, N.H. and Elisabete and her husband, Joe Medeiros of Salem, N.H.; grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Leslie, David, Jeffrey, Christine, Melissa and her husband, Matt, Derek, Nick, Ashley, Corey, Anthony, Matthew, Lindsay, Brittany, Kaitlyn, Cassandra and Michaela; sisters, Enezia Carreiro, Fernanda Homen and Natalia Valerio all of Canada and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16 at the Goundrey and Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Salem, N.H . A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph ’s Church, Salem N.H. Burial is to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem N.H.
