Groveland — Norma E. Wood, 84 a lifelong resident of Groveland, MA died Thursday morning with her loving family by her side. Born September 5, 1928 at 6 School Street in Groveland, she was the daughter of the late Harry Haigh and Elsie Hanscom Haigh of Groveland and was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Raymond S. Wood and an infant son Raymond H. Wood.
Norma worked in the United Shoe Machinery Corp in Haverhill, as a telephone operator for AT&T, as a bus driver and cafeteria worker for the Pentucket Regional School District, and as a teacher at Perry Park Pre-School from 1973-1983.
Norma was a Groveland high School graduate. She was a member of the Groveland Congregational Church, sang in the Church Choir and also sang with the Sweet Adeline’s. She was an active member of The Eastern Star, Groveland Mother’s Club, and Cub Scout Den Mother. She will be sadly missed and remembered for her loving devotion to her family and her quick wit and humor.
She is survived by her sons Stanley E. Wood and his wife Paula (Charles) of Methuen, Bruce C. Wood and his wife Mary (Lopez) of Groveland, daughter Cynthia R. (Wood) Dufresne and her husband James of Groveland and sister Marguerite Rizzo of Nahant, MA. Norma was a loving Grammie to Krista Wood and John Gordon, Michael Wood and wife Bonnie Bellemore Wood, Jessica Dufresne Howard and husband Hugh Howard, David Wood, Derek Dufresne and his wife Erin Colligan Dufresne, and Christopher Wood and his wife Sarah Lawless Wood. She was also a Great Grammie to Spenser Wood, Caleb Howard, Madison Howard, Nina Gordon, Amber Wood, Abigail Dufresne and Jayden Howard. Norma is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her Funeral Service on Tuesday, February 5th at 11AM in the Merton E. Roberts, Jr. and Conte Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Groveland. Calling Hours will be held on Monday from 3 to 7 in the funeral home.
