Amesbury, MA — Ruth Elizabeth (Sheldon) Potter, age 98, longtime Amesbury resident and former longtime Merrimac resident as well, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon at Maplewood Center in Amesbury. She was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Harold Fischer Potter, who died May 31, 2007.
Born in Merrimac, June 2, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Guy E. and Marjorie E. (Eaton) Sheldon and was a graduate of the former Merrimac High School, Class of 1933.
Ruth was a dedicated wife, who assisted her husband with his carpentry business. She was also a good friend to many, always there to lend a hand or sit and chat and enjoy the day. Ruth was a wonderful baker, delighting in delivering her baked goods to family, friends, shut-ins, and any local bake sales.
Ruth was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge of Newburyport.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families, whom she considered more like her children and grandchildren, along with many dear friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main St., Merrimac, will be Monday, July 1, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at Union Cemetery, Haverhill Road, Amesbury.
