Methuen — Donald (Don) P. Dougherty 57 of Methuen passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, surrounded by his loving family after courageously fighting Carcinoid Cancer with Liver Metastasis for over four years.
He leaves his loving wife of over 24 years, Katherine M. (Wallace) Dougherty, formerly of Somerville. He was the proud and loving father of Mark A. (MHS 09) and Kristen E. (MHS 16), all of Methuen. He is survived by his father, Lawrence G. Dougherty of Woburn; his brother, Lawrence W. and his wife, Joyce (Venuti) of Mesa, Ariz.; his sister, Jo Ann (Dougherty) Morgan of Pepperell. He is predeceased by his mother, Ann (Hickey) Dougherty and brother, Paul G. Dougherty, both formerly of Woburn. He leaves behind his extended loving and cherished cousins, nephews, nieces and grand nephews and many friends.
Donald was born in Boston and raised in Woburn before moving to Methuen, where he raised his family. He attended Woburn Public Schools (’73), Bentley University, Waltham (’83) and Cambridge College, Cambridge (’04). He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1975 and continued his military career with the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Yeoman 2nd Class. In 1984 he received a direct commission aboard the USS Constitution as an Ensign, Supply Corp, USNR and obtained the rank of Lieutenant with an honorable discharge.
Until his time of passing, Donald was employed with Compliance Technologies International LLP, Andover as a client tax consultant. He was previously employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Co, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Boston and State Street Corp, Boston. His most unique and favorite job was working with and traveling the United States with Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus working in the pProduction and wardrobe departments at the age of 19. Donald was involved in Methuen Youth Soccer, Little League and Basketball as a team parent assistant coach and coach through the years.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, December 3, from 3 – 8 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Lucy’s Church, 254 Merrimack St., Methuen.
