Haverhill — Patricia M. Hennessey of Haverhill Crossing passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving and devoted family on December 10, 2012.
The only daughter of John and Margret Carney of Lawrence, Patricia was born January 12, 1930. She was predeceased by brothers, Walter and John Carney both of North Andover whom were her idols and lifelong mentors.
Patricia attended the St. Patrick’s School System in South Lawrence having her cousins as her best friends. She attended St. Elizabeth’s Nursing School in Brighton and graduated with the class of 1951 starting her lifelong career as a nurse, caregiver and a long life of service to others.
She met her late husband Thomas J. Hennessey while attending nursing school and married shortly thereafter in December of 1951. They had a lifelong love for each other and a strong marriage that lasted for over 50 years.
Patricia and Thomas were the parents of nine wonderful children raising them as a close family of six girls and three boys. Many challenges faced them throughout raising nine children but their strength of marriage and unconditional love of all their kids endured. Having settled in North Andover they considered this their “true” home.
Patricia was active in many activities in the community throughout her life. Serving as a member of the Bon Secours Hospital Auxiliary, many PTA’s in her kid’s school systems, the Girl Scouts, St. Michaels Church in her hometown of North Andover, as well as other Catholic Parishes where she lived throughout her life. She always found the time to help and serve others being an example to all of her children and grandchildren. She spent her retirement years in Ossipee, N.H. on Lake Ossipee where she was constantly surrounded by loving grandchildren enjoying time at “Grammy and Grampy’s”.
Her proudest accomplishment in life was her family. She never wanted to talk about herself, only how her kids were doing. She is survived by Mary and Steve Sousa of Kingston, N.H., Kevin and Maria Hennessey of Southport, .C., Kathy and Sal Petralia of North Andover, Eileen Hennessey of Newton, N.H., Joan and Leif Korb of Plaistow, N.H., Maureen and Rick Miner of Montague, Ellen and Patrick Feran of Haverhill, Thomas and Maria Hennessey of Laguna Nigel, Calif., and Michael and Lisa Hennessey of Plaistow, N.H.
Her 16 grandchildren were her most prized possession having loved and cared for all of them with unconditional love and affection given to each and every one of them. Many hours of caring and comforting and enjoying being the awesome “Grammy” that she truly was.
Patricia was fortunate enough to also enjoy the company of her great-grandchildren in her later years.
The Hennessey family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Haverhill Crossings and Merrimack Valley Hospice for the care given to Patricia.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 14 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Parish North Andover, followed by burial at Ridgewood Cemetery also in North Andover. Family and fFriends may call Thursday for a “True Irish Wake” at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover, from 4 to 8 p.m.
