Ann Colcord, 59

North Hampton, NH — Ann Colcord, 59, of North Hampton, died Monday, June 24, in a kayaking accident in Stratham’s Squamscott River.

She was born in Winchester, Mass., on September 6, 1953, and was the daughter of Helen (Nelson) Huffaker and the late Eugene Huffaker.

Ann was raised in Wakefield, Mass., and later Lynnfield, Mass., where she graduated from Lynnfield High School, Class of 1971. She then attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut, Class of 1975, earning a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy.

Ann worked most of her 23 years practicing with the local visiting nurse associations. When she retired, Ann worked as a paraprofessional in the Hampton Public Kindergarten, and has since returned to substituting after caring for her grandchildren for six great years.

Her calling to make her community and world a better place led her to many wonderful organizations. Some of these endeavors brought her to volunteer with Seacoast Hospice, Seacoast Family Promise, Seacoast Habitat for Humanity, and with the Friends of Kakamega orphanage in Kenya, to which she traveled in 2009. She was a committed foster mother to four children of varying ages in need of a loving and safe home. Her love for those most in need knew no boundaries

Ann had many creative talents that included frame drumming with a trio “Tabbalat,” and co-creating labyrinth spaces for walking and healing. She was an accomplished and published artist, and her watercolor paintings decorate the homes of many whom she cared for. Drum circles and circle dances were her expression of musical love.

Her art and music was inspired by her great love for nature, Mother Earth and all beings of life.
