Haverhill — James P. (Jim) DiBurro Sr. , 76, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 9, 2013, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill after a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 27, 1937, in Lawrence, Jim was the fourth child of Carmine and Alice (Saliba) DiBurro. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School, and Merrimack College. Prior to his retirement in 1999, Jim was a corporate manager for Textron/Avco Systems Division for over 42 years. Jim also served his country in the U.S. Army as a communications specialist.
Although raised in Lawrence, Jim spent the majority of his life in Haverhill. He moved his family to Bradford following a serious house fire, in which he was injured carrying his infant daughter through the burning home.
In his youth Jim was very athletic and was an excellent baseball player, attributes which he passed on to many of his grandchildren, especially his grandson, Johnny. Later in life he participated in softball and bowling leagues and was an avid card player excelling at Poker, 45’s and many other games. Jim’s extraordinary memory and mind for math and numbers constantly impressed his kids and grandkids.
In his free time Jim liked to travel and especially enjoyed Italian cooking, sharing and consuming his creations with great enthusiasm. He was renowned for his homemade tomato sauces, lasagna, minestra, stuffed artichokes, antipastos, and kibbee.
Jim will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Patricia E. (McLaughlin) for 24 years and resided in Amesbury, MA since 1989. He was also married to the late Frances K. (Anzaldi) for over 19 years, with whom he had five children, James Jr. and his wife Lisa DiBurro of Bradford, Scott D. DiBurro of Amesbury, Dina-Lynn Platts of Andover, Mark S. and his wife Barbara DiBurro of San Antonio, TX and the late Brian P. DiBurro of Haverhill. Children by marriage include, Kathleen and Richard Murray of Salem, NH, Kevin and Ann-Marie Galvin of Mashpee, MA, Brian and Pam Galvin of Salem, NH and Maureen Delay of Hampstead, NH. He leaves behind siblings Mary Anne Clark of Salem, NH, Dorothy Whittaker of Glen, NH and Robert DiBurro of Haverhill. He also leaves behind a special Aunt, Louise Aboud of Florida. Jim was predeceased by his eldest brother, Peter J. DiBurro of Methuen. Also survived by nineteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
