Albuquerque, NM — O'Connor, Charles W., 87, died at his Albuquerque, N.M., home on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Mr. O'Connor was a native of Wakefield, Mass. He was born on February 16, 1926, and was the son of the late Frank and Gertrude (O'Neill) O'Connor. He graduated from St. Joseph Elementary School, Wakefield High School and attended Boston College, before entering the Navy in 1944. He served in the Pacific aboard the USS Newberry, participating in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, as well as the initial occupation of Japan. Following discharge, he continued his education at Fordham University in New York City, graduating in 1950.
He was predeceased by his wife, June Lee O'Connor; and sister, Frances Robertie. He is survived by three children, residing in Massachusetts, Kevin O'Connor of Merrimac, Nancy O'Connor of Dartmouth and Patricia McInnis of Rockport; five grandchildren; his brother, Edward O'Connor of Kentucky; his spouse, Nida Gosselin of Albuquerque.
Mr. O'Connor was a senior manufacturing engineer at the Lucent Technologies Merrimack Valley Works in North Andover, Mass. He retired in 1989, after a 28-year career.
