Georgetown — Richard Kwapniewski, 68, of Georgetown, Mass., passed away peacefully Thursday, May 9, 2013, at his home.
Richard was born October 30, 1944, in Maspeth - Queens, N.Y. to the late Joseph and Sophie (Kurzeja) Kwapniewski, one of six children. He graduated from Nutley High School, N.J. in 1962, and enlisted in the Navy shortly afterward, where he served for four years. Before retirement, Richard was employed as an assistant manager at Verizon, where he worked for 40 years. He enjoyed his family, work and was a gifted and skilled generalist as well as an avid outdoorsman.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Susan (Brugler) Kwapniewski; his two children, daughter Tina Ahern and husband, Daniel, of Bridgewater, N.J. and son Michael Kwapniewski and wife, Rachel, of Beverly, Mass.; two grandchildren Noah and Katarina Kwapniewski; three sisters, Betty Szalus of Chalfont, Pa., Loretta Kwapniewski of Nutley, N.J., Theresa Takacs of Middletown, Del.; his brother Stanley Kwapniewski of Lodi, NJ; and his many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Richard is also brother to the late Joseph Kwapniewski of Salem, Conn.
ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of life service will be held at noon, Saturday, June 1, at First Congregational Church, 7 Andover Street, Georgetown, MA 01833. Minister Lorraine Edwards will officiate. Relatives and friends are kindly invited immediately following the service to a gathering at Keon’s at the Black Swan Country Club, 258 Andover Street, Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, PO Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777.
