North Andover — Mr. Richard F. "Dick” Leighton, 82, of North Andover, died peacefully at his home on Saturday.
He was the beloved husband of the late Cynthia J. (Clark) Leighton, with whom he had shared 55 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Ralph and Ada (Diggins) Leighton. He was raised in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. He had lived in Billerica for 10 years, before moving to North Andover 31 years ago.
Dick served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an automotive service manager for Sears Automotive in Saugus, until his retirement in 1972. Dick loved the beach and visiting his kids. Later in life, he enjoyed going dancing every Saturday.
He was incredibly kind, generous and funny, and was a great storyteller. He was a dedicated husband who lived for his family, and he will be remembered as an incredibly supportive father. Dick was a man who brought the room to life with his brilliant smile, his sense of humor and his bigger-than-life personality.
Dick was the devoted father of Kevin F. Leighton and his wife, Vivi, of Methuen, and Kimberly J. Leighton of Washington, D.C.; loving grandfather of Matthew, Christina and Gregory; brother of Gene Leighton and his late wife, Beryl, of Saugus, and Ralph L. Leighton and his late wife, Jane, of San Diego; brother-in-law of the late Alice Cook and her late husband, Gordon, Dorothy Nai and her husband, John, the late Robert Clark and his wife, Ruth, the late Rita Muchmore and her late husband, Robert, the late Patricia Brady and her late husband, Patrick, and Linda Stevens and her late husband, Lawrence; uncle to several nieces and nephews, including David Leighton and Tia Kramer; and a dear friend to Claire and John Abbott, and Claire Palumbo and her daughter, Paula Palumbo Chabra.
