Hampton, N.H. — John R. Mandel, 92, formerly of Haverhill, passed away on October 24, at his daughter’s home. Mr. Mandel was the husband of the late Marjorie C. (Malcolm) Mandel.
Educated in Wisconsin, he pursued his higher education at Marquette University successfully earning his degree as an electrical engineer. His career at the former Western Electric in Haverhill spanned 30 years as he advanced to management positions in North Andover and Jersey City, N.J. before retiring in Kearney, N.J. in 1980.
During the war he served with the U.S. Marine Corps. In this capacity he was sent to attend service schools at Harvard and MIT before his honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant in 1946. Mr. Mandel was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where served on many committees including the Board of Trustees and Deacons. He was devoted to his family and together they enjoyed many years at their camp on Lake Winnipesauke, enjoying all the water activities the lake would offer.
Mr. Mandel is survived by his children, Lynn Larsen of Hampton, NH.., William Mandel and his wife Stephanie of Cleveland, Tenn., James Mandel and his wife Ellie of Hudson, N.H, Jonathan Mandel and his wife Cyrena of Haverhill; grandchildren, Sarah Larsen Christensen and husband Neil, Lauren Mandel Belanger and husband Kevin, David Mandel, Kathryn Mandel, Clarissa Mandel, Daniel Mandel, David Mandel and wife Heather, JJ Mandel, Nancy Rock and husband Brian, and Samuel Hoff Mandel and wife Michelle, and 12 great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service on Saturday, October 27 at First Baptist Church in Haverhill. Interment at Linwood Cemetery will be private.
