New Port Richey, Fla. — Mavis J. (Sutton) Somma, aged 73, died October 26 in New Port Richey, Fla., after a courageous battle with cancer. Mavis was a 35 year resident of Salem, N.H. and an active member of her community in Florida, teaching computer classes, creative writing and genealogy. She was head receptionist for Standex International Corporation, headquartered in Salem, as well as being an avid crafter and a member of the Salem High School Band Parents Association.
Mavis was born in Bidston Village, Birkenhead, England in 1938. She moved to the United States in 1961 and became a U.S. citizen in 1977.
She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, James of New Port Richey, Fla.; daughter, Elizabeth and son-in-law, Michael Rizzo, Jr.; granddaughter, Samantha of Enfield, N.H.; son, Peter and daughter-in-law Valerie of Hampton, N.H.; as well as many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and in-laws who will greatly miss her humor, wit and love of life.
ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 3 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, N.H. All friends are encouraged to bring their memories and stories to share.
