Ernestine M. 'Teenie' Goodwin


Amesbury, MA — Ernestine M. “Teenie” Goodwin, 87, lifelong Amesbury resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, January 16, 2014, at Country Health and Rehab Center in Newburyport.

Born in Newburyport on May 22, 1926, she was one of five children of the late Ernest H. and Marion I. (Hoyt) Goodwin. She was a graduate of Amesbury High School, Class of 1944, then went on to graduate from MacIntosh College in 1946. Her working years started as a private secretary to Austin Wason of Wason-McDonald Mills Co. in Haverhill, then as a teller at the Provident Bank and the former Amesbury Cooperative Bank.

“Teenie” was a lifetime, active member of the Union Congregational Church in Amesbury as well as faithful member of the Willing Workers of the Church. Additionally, she was a member of the Bartlett Museum, the Amesbury Carriage Museum, Amesbury Improvement Association, the Whittier Home Association, and the Lake Attitash Association.

She loved to travel, and with her sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Goodwin, and they enjoyed wonderful trips throughout the world and have collected hundreds of pictures chronicling their adventures. They were not only sisters, but they were each others' best friend, and they were inseparable.

She leaves behind her sisters, Elizabeth N. Goodwin of Amesbury, and Marjorie F. Parker and husband, Richard, of Clermont, Fla.; her brother, E. Leslie Goodwin and wife, Mary Lou, of Peabody; two nieces, Betty-Lou Honey and husband, David, of Lake Attitash, Amesbury, and Julianne M. (Goodwin) Girard and husband, Donald, of Bedford, N.H.; her nephew, Paul E. Goodwin and wife, Suzanne, of Beverly; her two grandnephews and two grandnieces, Christian and John Goodwin of Beverly, and Kayla Girard of Bedford, and Bethany Granoth and husband Karl Jr. of Amesbury; along with several cousins and dear friends, all of whom will truly miss her. She was predeceased by her sister, Elsa L. Goodwin

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury, will be on Friday, January 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 25, at 11 a.m., at Union Congregational Church, Main St., Amesbury, followed by interment in Union Cemetery, Amesbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Union Congregational Church, 350 Main St., Amesbury, MA 01913.
