Haverhill, MA — Lucien L. Bouvier, 86, of Haverhill, MA died Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Bedford, MA. Born in Haverhill on March 4, 1926 he was one of twelve children born to Omer and Adeline (Archambault) Bouvier. He attended St. Joseph’s Parochial School and graduated from Haverhill High School. Lucien served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He was a Yeoman, Third Class. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the American Area Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal.
For over sixty years Lucien ran the L&R Service Station in Lafayette Square. Fondly referred to as the “mayor” of Lafayette Square. He was an active member of the business community and involved in the establishment of the First Bank and Trust in Lafayette Square. He is warmly remembered by many loyal patrons who went to him for service of their automobiles from the heyday of the “full service, happy motoring, put a tiger in your tank” gas stations, through long lines of gas rationing and high gas prices to his retirement and sale of the station in 2006.
Lucien loved to play cards and his love of horse racing would culminate each summer with his annual vacation to Saratoga Springs, NY with his wife. At one time he co-owned a standardbred race horse named Ambro’s Joy, dabbling in the exciting and fickle world of harness racing.
Lucien was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a great support to his family. No matter how busy he was with work he was always there for his children - taking them along snow plowing, and walking in the fall to find pignuts. His business was a focal point for his family and his two youngest sons worked with him at the service station for many years. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Helen J. (Rosadowski) Bouvier, daughters Sheila Kenyon and husband Raymond of Haverhill, Christine Massa and husband Nicholas of Haverhill, Gabrielle Bevilacqua and husband Francis of Plaistow, NH, and Andrea Harper and husband Woodrow of North Londonderry, NH, sons Michael Bouvier of Jamaica Plain, Brian Bouvier and wife Wanda of Haverhill, and Jeffrey Bouvier and wife Kelly of Salem, NH, and twelve grandchildren, Katelyn, Shana, Ariel, Trevor and Kendra Bouvier, Michael Kenyon, Anthony, Andrew and Alex Bevilacqua, Patrick Massa, and Curtis and Madison Harper.
He leaves behind brothers, Adrian and Francis and sisters Marie Gaudet and Florina Comeau. He is predeceased by his first wife Arline (Brown) Bouvier, brothers Paul, Robert, Edward, sisters Dolores Kelley, Helen Bouvier, Antoinette Duff and baby Claire.
