Methuen, MA — Colette J. "Kit" (Laliberte) Despres, 81, of Methuen, Mass., passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Hospice House in Haverhill, Mass., surrounded by her family.
She was born on February 24, 1932, in Lawrence, and raised in Lawrence and Methuen by her parents, the late Raymond and Colette (Charest) Laliberte. Kit was educated at St. Anne's School and also attended the Methuen public schools. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Saint Theresa Church in Methuen, Mass. Kit worked for ITT Corporation until her retirement.
She was very involved with Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Saint Theresa Church, as she was a Eucharistic Minister and was in tune with the day-to-day operations of the church. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a very special lady, and those whose lives she affected will never be the same without her. She could light up a room with her presence and had the ability to make a stranger feel like family within minutes with her kind words. She treated and loved everyone she came across like they were her own. According to her family, a close friend best described Kit as a person most people strive to be like or want to be around, and anyone would be envious to receive the love she gave. If you were family you were clearly everything to her, and it was very noticeable how much she truly, unconditionally loved you.
She was the wife of the late Wilfred C. "Poochie" Despres, and is survived by her children, Scott R. Despres of Danby, Vt., Paula and her husband, David O'Hearn, of Methuen, Mass., and Beth and her husband, Alexander, Silva, of Groveland, Mass.; grandchildren, David and Rebecca O'Hearn, Ryan and Melinda O'Hearn, Meaghan O'Hearn, Jordan, Joshua, and Alexandra Silva, Frankie and Katie Rodriguez; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Madelynn, Victoria, Riley, Gabriella, Kendall, and Patrick O’Hearn; foster son-in-law, Frank Rodriguez of Lawrence, Mass.; brother, Raymond and his wife, Janice, Laliberte, of Salem, N.H.; sister-in-law, Adele Laliberte of Florida; brothers-in-law, Paul and his wife, Ann Despres, and William Despres; sisters-in-law, Lorraine and her husband, William, Sawyer, Helen and her husband, Ben, Delaney, and Jeanne Reynolds and her husband, Michael, Dundorf; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is also survived by an aunt, Cecile Martino of Lawrence, Mass.
