Salem, NH — Marion E. Lawton (Edge), 86, of Salem, NH, passed away on March 4, 2014, at the Mount Carmel Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 21, 1927, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Herbert and Lillian (Smith) Edge. Marion was educated in Lawrence and was employed as a telephone operator for New England Tel & Tel and later retired as an administrative assistant from Nynex. Marion was a longtime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a resident of Salem, New Hampshire for 63 years.
Marion enjoyed traveling, cooking and gardening but most of all spending time with her family. A lover of nature, she enjoyed feeding the birds and watching her backyard wildlife. She was passionate about her home and family. She was loved by so many and loved and cared for so many. For many years she volunteered at the Salem Food Pantry.
Surviving are her children, Deborah (Brian) Wood of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Douglas Lawton of Salem, Gary Lawton of Salem; three grandchildren, Jonathan (Leah) Wood of New Orleans, Matthew (Gabriela) Wood of Portland, Oregon and Heather Lawton of Manchester, New Hampshire; a sister, Lillian Scanlon; many nieces and nephews and special friends. She was affectionately called “The Nanster” by her grandchildren and “Aunt Mag” by her nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 235 Myrtle St., Manchester or Amedisys Hospice of Londonderry, 1 Commons Drive, Bldg. E, Unit 33, Londonderry.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Phaneuf Funeral Home and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., (corner of Union Street), Manchester, NH. A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Mt. Carmel Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 235 Myrtle St., Manchester, NH.
